I pulled this little item from the January 2012 issue of Parents magazine…
I really liked the idea. So many people engage in social justice efforts or other charities as a one-time thing only. That’s ok sometimes, but it’d be better if we were also doing things that kept us engaged on a continual basis. Think of it as a renewable charity effort. Now that sounds very green and earth-friendly doesn’t it? Why not do something that you can check in on regularly?
My son planted several trees at the Myrtle Beach State Park during a Cub Scouts activity. Now, every time we visit the park for fun or for more Scouting stuff, we also glance over and see how our trees are doing.
Try thinking about your favorite social activity like this. What can you do to make it renewable?
