God Math is pretty cool. It’s basically when God does something and the numbers don’t obey the standard laws of mathematics. It doesn’t have to make sense either. It’s not supposed to. It’s God Math.
I’m reading the book Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs. It’s an excellent relationship book that I would highly recommend for the bookshelf of any married or about to be married couple. My God Math example for today came partly from the book.
When a man and a woman become married in God’s eyes, the man and woman become one flesh. Mark 10:7-9 says, “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”
In other words, 1 + 1 = 1.
Here’s another one. God has uniquely gifted the institution of marriage with certain power that other relationships do not possess. Hebrews 13:4 speaks to this in saying that “marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled.” A married couple is not just two people that join in a partnership. A healthy marriage is in fact greatly more than the sum its parts.
In other words, 1 + 1 = 3.
Where have you seen God Math in other places in your life?
