We’re in the midst of a series on personal storytelling told in 3 parts. It’s an important series and one that I wish more of our regulars were here to take part in, but, as I’ve heard Pastors say before, the right people were here to take part. Even so, I thought I’d share my notes so any of our readers could also enjoy it. I’ll flush out the notes as best I can so everyone can take what they need from it.
The series is all out telling our stories to others. Part I focuses on telling God’s story. Part II deals with telling the story of our church. Part III this coming Sunday will be about telling our personal stories.
Part I- Telling God’s Story
The Story- John 1:1-5
Passion- John 3:16-17
Experimentation- Genesis 1:26
The definition of experimentation is A. a test under controlled conditions that is made to demonstrate a known truth, examine the validity of a hypothesis, or determine the efficacy of something previously untried; B. an innovative act or procedure; or C. to try something new, especially in order to gain experience.
Think of this definition with God in mind.
Expertise & Focus- Psalm 139:14, Luke 12:6-7
Share Your Art- God’s art is represented in nature and in us.
Not Afraid to Try New Things- Think about the platypus, an egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed, otter-footed mammal. That’s not the end of the weirdness. It is one of the few venomous mammals. The male platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers a venom capable of causing severe pain to humans.
Core Equity- Ecclesiastes 12:13, John 6:40
Embrace Them for Who They Are- 1 John 5:7-8
Transparency- The Bible is pretty transparent about God’s plan for us.
Memorable and Iconic- What is memorable to you personally about God and Jesus?
Savor and Slow Down- How do we do it? I’d say meditate, but do it God’s way, not some pseudoreligious yoga kind of way. Psalms 1:2, Psalms 19:14, Psalms 119:15
No Mass Production- Is the way you view God nothing but the mass produced version…an angry white man who just wants everyone to follow rules and never have fun?
Imperfect is Perfect- Isaiah 64:6-8
Essence- God loves us and wants us to spend eternity with Him.
